Local Area Network is very small in scope and wraps a small geographic area like a building, floor of a building or in a campus. The media types normally used in LANs include Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, Token Ring and FDDI.
A LAN comprises of PCs, file servers, routers, bridges, hubs, switches, multilayer switches, voice gateways, firewalls and other devices.
