One of the main parts of Networking is the different types of network applications which
allow users to share and use their data and other resources across the whole network. Some
frequently used networking applications include e-mail, FTP and WWW. Usually there are three kinds of components needed to build a network: Computers, network devices and cabling. Computers: Computers are responsible for providing applications to the users so that users can use them to share their resources. Computers may have running Windows, Macintosh, UNIX, Linux or any other operating system. Network devices: There are different types of network devices that can be used in a network like routers, switches, hubs, firewalls, modems and an ISDN network termination device. These are the intelligent devices responsible to take information to different nodes in a network, all the data movement across the network is carried out through these network devices. Cabling: Now to physically connect the computers in a network we use cabling so that the information can actually move between different computers through a proper media.
