Verification basically refers to the periodic assessments and conference sessions which are conducted to evaluate reports, plans, strategies, codes, customer requirements and specifications.
Verification is usually performed by using tools like checklists, bugs and issue lists, inspection and retrospection meetings etc.
Validation comprises of the overall testing process which is actually performed to assess the viability of the system. It is conducted after the verifications are completed.
A term, very popular in software testing, IV and V’ refers to the Independent Verification and Validation.
